Hand-over of the Chairmanship of the LafargeHolcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction (from left): Beat Hess, Chairman of the Board of Directors of LafargeHolcim; Jan Jenisch, CEO of LafargeHolcim, Roland Köhler, incoming Chairman of the Foundation; Rolf Soiron, founding Chairman of the Foundation; Thomas Schmidheiny, member of the Board of Directors of LafargeHolcim.

The Board of the LafargeHolcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction – an initiative of LafargeHolcim, the leading global building materials and solutions company – will be chaired by Roland Köhler from April 1, 2018. Roland Köhler was a member of the Executive Committee of LafargeHolcim and takes over from Rolf Soiron, founding Chairman of the Foundation since 2003.

Brinda Somaya, Principal Architect & Managing Director of Somaya & Kalappa Consultants in Mumbai, India; and Stuart Smith, Director of Arup, a multinational engineering Group based in London, UK, were appointed as new members to the Board of the Foundation.

The board consists of international experts including Marc Angélil, Marilyne Andersen, Maria Atkinson, Alejandro Aravena, Harry Gugger, Roland Köhler and Enrique Norten. LafargeHolcim, the sponsor of the Foundation, is represented on the Board by Jan Jenisch, CEO, and Jens Diebold, Head of Sustainable Development.

Whereas the Board is responsible for defining programs and managing the Foundation’s activities, the Academic Committee inspires the Foundation by framing architectural, scientific, cultural, and policy concerns. The team led by Marc Angélil, and including Philippe Block, Guillaume Habert (professors of architecture and engineering at ETH Zurich) and Harry Gugger (professor of architecture at EPFL Lausanne) has been strengthened by Dirk Hebel. He is Professor of Sustainable Construction at the Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT) in Karlsruhe, Germany.
