Loreta Castro Reguera is Design Director and Founder of Taller Capital based in Mexico City, Mexico.
She is also a Professor in the School of Architecture at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (FA UNAM), where she teaches a thesis design seminar.
Her focus is on the design of infrastructural public spaces to better manage water through urban design.
She studied architecture at FA UNAM graduating with Suma Cum Laude (2004). She holds a Master of Architecture from the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio (AAM) in Switzerland (2004), where Peter Zumthor was her tutor for two years. She also holds a Master of Architecture in Urban Design with Distinction from the Graduate School of Design (GSD), Harvard University (2010).
She was awarded several scholarships and prizes including a Fulbright Scholarship and CEMEX Marcelo Zambrano prize. She was recipient of the Young Creators Program Fellowship (2006) and the Druker Travelling Fellowship Award (2010) at the GSD.
Loreta Castro Reguera has been a design critic at the A Alfred Taubman College of Architecture & Urban Planning, University of Michigan, USA and a guest speaker at FA UNAM, the Architecture School of Barnard+Columbia, and Harvard GSD.
She has written essays and articles for several magazines and books published by the GSD, FA UNAM, and others. She is a member of the editorial board of Bitácora (FA UNAM magazine) and TRANSFER, a Swiss digital architecture platform.
She was the design director and technical coordinator of the UNAM project Hydropuncture in Mexico City, which received the Global LafargeHolcim Awards Gold 2018 and LafargeHolcim Awards Gold 2017 for region Latin America. The project was praised by the jury for “foregrounding an extremely important challenge for contemporary and future society”.
She was a Motivator at the LafargeHolcim Next Generation Awards Lab 2018 held in Mexico City and was a workshop presenter on Shifting the flows, pulling the strings: Stocks, flows, and their dynamics at the 6th International LafargeHolcim Forum for Sustainable Construction in Cairo, April 4-6, 2019.
Loreta Castro Reguera will be head of the LafargeHolcim Awards jury for region Latin America in 2020.
