BK Chakravarthy is Professor at the Industrial Design Centre (IDC) at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Bombay) in Mumbai, India.
He is the Distinguished Visiting Professor in the Faculties of Engineering and Architectural Science, and Communication and Design at the Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada.
BK Chakravarthy is also Founder and Head of the Shenoy Innovation Studio at the IIT Bombay, which works towards developing innovative products and services by leveraging new and futuristic technologies developed at the institute and other research and development organizations.
He studied mechanical engineering at the Osmania University, Hyderabad, before completing post-graduate studies at the IIT Bombay. He undertook active research in the area of new product innovation and obtained a doctorate at the IIT Delhi whilst being one of the core faculty members of the design program.
He actively researches in the field of design strategy, humanizing technology, disruptive new product innovation, and collaborative innovation methodologies.
BK Chakravarthy specializes in the area of innovation by design which encompasses new product innovation process and methodology. His aim is to create design leaders for the Indian industry who can develop innovative products and “humanizing technology” through collaborative projects with leading national and international companies. One of his most notable products is the Z‐Line petrol pump designed for Larsen & Toubro (L&T).
He was the Co-chair of the 4th International Holcim Forum for Sustainable Construction on the theme of “Economy of Sustainable Construction” held in Mumbai, India in April 2013.
